I’ve spent my entire life in The Netherlands. While it’s a beautiful country, I feel like it’s about time that I go out and explore more of what the world has to offer. After all, I work with clients from so many different countries. With such a big world, how can I possibly choose?
It would make sense for me to start with some of the countries that are closest to me. I can take a train to many of the neighboring countries. Of course, I could also bring a friend along and drive to some of the more exciting cities.
From The Netherlands, it would be relatively easy to get to Belgium. I could visit the exciting shops of Brussels, the medieval castles of Bruges, and so much more.
I could, then, go to Germany. I’ve heard so many great things about this large country from friends who have visited. I might want to start in Berlin where I can visit Checkpoint Charlie and see the remnants of the Berlin Wall. Of course, I could also do some beer tasting in Munich. If I go in October, I could experience all that there is to see of Oktoberfest, which I hear is one big party.
After that, I might want to wander down to France to see the Eiffel Tower and some of the incredible art museums. As a graphic designer, art has always been a love of mine. The Louvre would be a place I could spend hours walking through.
I would want to visit Italy, too. I love wine, so I’d want to spend a few days in the Tuscan region where so many great wineries are. I could go shopping in Milan, sightseeing in Rome, and eat pizza throughout Naples.
It would make a lot of sense for me to go “across the pond” as they say to North America. While Mexico and Canada look like a lot of fun, the United States looks like it offers so much. I have many clients there that provide me with work. I could spend some time on both coasts. In fact, there’s so much to do in the United States that I could probably spend a month in the country and still not see everything.
Where would I go first? There’s the Statue of Liberty in New York, South Beach in Florida, the Hollywood sign in California, the White House in Washington DC, deep dish pizza in Chicago, the Grand Canyon in Arizona, and so much more. How can I possibly choose between them all? You can clearly see the dilemma that I have.
If I want to see different states, I’d have to do a lot of saving. I’m not sure how easy it would be to drive from California to New York, for example. The good news is that they drive on the same side of the road as what I’m used to here in Amsterdam. It would be fun to set up lunch meetings with some of my clients so that I could meet with them face-to-face for a change.
Of course, there are all sorts of other amazing places that I’d want to visit. There’s Africa, Australia, South America, and even Asia. I’ve always seen photos of places. Once, I had a pen pal from Australia and they would send me postcards from some of the places they traveled. I would get postcards from Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, and even Tasmania. It may have been that moment that made me realize that, one day, I wanted to do a lot of traveling, too.
Jet setting across the globe would be more fun once I’m married, though. That way, I’d have someone to share the memories with. Plus, I think it would be very expensive to fly to all of these exotic places.

Plus, I’d get to say that I know someone there, which could make traveling to a foreign place a little less daunting.
